Pixy Help Center
Short answers on how Pixy works: logging your mood, your year in pixels, backup, export, and privacy. Coming from another mood tracker? Each answer shows how the other apps handle the same question.
Getting Started
What Pixy is and how to build a mood tracking habit.
- What is Pixy?
Pixy is a free mood tracker and mood journal for iPhone and Android. You rate each day on a 7-step color scale, and Pixy paints it into a calendar, so a whole year of moods fits on one screen.
Read answer - What is a mood tracker, and why keep one?
A mood tracker is a short daily log of how you feel. One entry tells you little. After a few weeks, the entries show patterns: good and hard stretches, and the activities, people, and sleep that tend to come with them.
Read answer - How often should I log my mood?
Once a day is enough to see patterns. Log more often on days when your mood swings. A daily reminder helps you keep the habit.
Read answer - How do I get started with Pixy?
Install Pixy from the App Store or Google Play and open it. There is no sign-up. The calendar is the home screen: tap the + button to log your first mood.
Read answer - How is Pixy different from other mood trackers?
Pixy is completely free, needs no account, shows no ads, keeps your entries on your phone, and is open source. It focuses on a quick daily check-in and your year in pixels, not on AI, coaching, or health integrations.
Read answer - YesDoes Pixy work offline?
Yes. Logging, the calendar, statistics, reminders, export, and import all work without an internet connection. Only sending feedback and opening the feature board need one.
Read answer - Who makes Pixy?
Pixy is built by Moritz Meyer, an independent developer. It is open source, and users shape what comes next by voting on features in Settings > Feedback > Vote Features.

Logging Your Mood
Check-ins, emotions, tags, notes, and sleep.
- How do I log my mood in Pixy?
Tap the + button on the calendar, pick one of 7 moods, and tap Save. Emotions, tags, sleep, and a note are optional steps after the mood.
Read answer - YesCan I log several entries per day?
Yes. Add as many entries per day as you like. The calendar colors each day by the average of its entries, and the day view lists every entry.
Read answer - How do I edit or delete an entry?
Tap the day in the calendar, tap the menu button on the entry, and choose Edit or Delete. A deleted entry cannot be restored, unless you have an older export.
Read answer - How do I add an entry for a past day or change its date?
Scroll back in the calendar and tap an empty past day. A check-in opens for that day. To change the date or time of an entry, tap the time at the top of the check-in.
Read answer - PartlyWhat mood scale does Pixy use? Can I create custom moods?
Pixy uses a fixed 7-step scale: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Neutral, Not so good, Very Bad, and Terrible. You cannot add or rename moods. Emotions and tags let you describe the day in more detail.
Read answer - Which emotions can I pick in Pixy?
Pixy lists 72 emotions, each with a short description. Pick as many as fit. The basic view shows 30 common ones plus your most used, and More shows the full list.
Read answer - How do I create, edit, and archive tags?
Tags track what fills your days: activities, places, people, anything. Create them in Settings > Check-in > Tags or straight from a check-in. You can have up to 50 tags in 18 colors.
Read answer - How do I add a note to an entry?
Use the note step at the end of a check-in. Tap "Write about your day" and type. A note can hold up to 10,000 characters, and search finds it later.
Read answer - YesCan I track my sleep in Pixy?
Yes. Pixy asks "How did you sleep?" once a day, on a 5-step scale from "Not at all" to "Great". Statistics show a sleep quality chart next to your mood.
Read answer - How do I choose which check-in steps appear?
Open Settings > Check-in and turn steps on or off: sleep, emotions, tags, note, and questions. Mood is always on. With every other step off, a check-in is a single tap.
Read answer - NoCan I add photos, videos, or voice notes to an entry?
Not yet. Pixy entries hold a mood, emotions, tags, sleep, and a text note. Photos are in testing and not available in the store version.
Read answer - NoCan Pixy track goals, habits, or streaks?
No. Pixy has no goals, habit checklist, or streak counter. You can log habits as tags, and statistics show how often you used each tag.
Read answer - PartlyCan I track symptoms, medication, or my period with Pixy?
Partly. Pixy has no medication, symptom, or cycle tracker, but you can create tags for them, such as "Headache" or "Period", and filter the calendar by tag.
Read answer - NoDoes Pixy have writing prompts, templates, or text formatting?
No. Pixy notes are plain text, without writing prompts, templates, titles, or formatting. The check-in itself gives structure: mood, emotions, tags, and sleep before the note.
Read answer - NoCan I add my location or the weather to an entry?
No. Pixy does not record your location or the weather, and it never asks for location access. Log them yourself with tags such as Home, Work, Travel, or Rainy.
Read answer - PartlyWhich day does a late-night entry count for?
An entry belongs to the date and time set at the top of the check-in. If you log after midnight about the day before, tap the time at the top of the check-in and pick yesterday's date. Days in Pixy start at midnight.

Calendar and Statistics
Your year in pixels, search, reports, and colors.
- What is a year in pixels, and where do I find it?
A year in pixels is a grid with one small square per day, colored by your mood. After a few weeks you see good and hard stretches at a glance. In Pixy, open Statistics > Year Report > Year in Pixels.
Read answer - How do I search my entries?
Tap the Filters icon at the top right of the calendar. Type a word to search your notes, or pick moods and tags. Matching days stay colored and a list of entries appears below.
Read answer - What do Pixy's statistics show?
Statistics show your last two weeks as highlights, plus a report for every month and year: mood trend, mood count, sleep, most felt emotions, most used tags, and your year in pixels.
Read answer - PartlyDoes Pixy show what affects my mood?
Not directly. Pixy does not calculate correlations between tags and mood. It shows tag peaks and your most used tags, and you can filter the calendar by a tag to see the moods of those days.
Read answer - YesCan I share my statistics or year in pixels?
Yes. Every card in Statistics has a share button. It creates an image you can save, send, or post. Only the image leaves your phone.
Read answer - How do I change the mood colors?
Open Settings > Appearance > Colors and tap a color scale. Pixy offers 3 scales. Every past entry switches to the new colors right away.
Read answer - YesDoes Pixy have dark mode?
Yes. By default Pixy follows your phone's setting. To choose yourself, open Settings > Appearance > Theme. Each tap switches between System, Light, and Dark.
Read answer - NoCan I favorite entries or see what I wrote on this day last year?
No. Pixy has no favorites, bookmarks, or On This Day view. To look back, scroll up in the calendar to the same day last year, or search your notes with Filters.

Reminders and Widgets
Daily reminders and what shows outside the app.
- How do I set a daily reminder?
Open Settings > Reminder, turn on Reminder, allow notifications, and pick a time. Pixy reminds you once a day and skips days you already logged.
Read answer - Why am I not getting reminders?
Most often notifications for Pixy are off in your phone's settings. Pixy also skips the reminder on days you already logged. Opening Settings > Reminder reschedules all reminders.
Read answer - NoDoes Pixy have a home screen widget?
Not yet. iPhone widgets for 4 weeks, a month, or a year in pixels are in testing. In the store version they may appear in the widget gallery but show "Not available". Android has no Pixy widget.
Read answer - NoDoes Pixy work on Apple Watch or Wear OS?
No. Pixy has no Apple Watch or Wear OS app. If your watch mirrors phone notifications, the daily reminder shows there too, but you log the entry on your phone.

Backup, Export, and New Phones
Keep a copy of your entries and move them between phones.
- PartlyHow do I back up my Pixy data?
Export a backup file yourself: Settings > Data > Export > JSON, then save it to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or another safe place. Pixy has no automatic cloud backup today.
Read answer - How do I move Pixy to a new phone?
Export a JSON file on your old phone, then import it on the new phone in Settings > Data > Import. This also works from iPhone to Android and back.
Read answer - NoCan I use Pixy on more than one device?
Not at the same time. Pixy does not sync between devices. You can move your entries to another device with a JSON export and import, but import replaces what is there instead of merging.
Read answer - How do I export my entries?
Open Settings > Data and tap JSON or CSV under Export. JSON is a full backup you can import again. CSV opens in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets.
Read answer - How do I open the CSV export in Excel or Google Sheets?
Export a CSV file in Settings > Data > Export > CSV, then open it in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets. Each row is one entry with date, time, mood rating, emotions, tags, note, and sleep.
Read answer - NoCan I export a PDF or print my entries?
No. Pixy has no PDF export or print view. Export a CSV and print it from a spreadsheet, or share statistics cards as images.
Read answer - YesCan I import my data from Daylio or another mood tracker?
Yes, with Pixy Switch. It converts the export of your old app into a Pixy file in your browser, and you import that file in Settings > Data > Import. It supports Daylio, Bearable, Day One, How We Feel, Apple Journal, and 16 more apps.
Read answer - PartlyMy entries are missing. How do I get them back?
First check the calendar filters: an active filter hides days. If entries are really gone, restore your latest JSON export in Settings > Data > Import. Pixy keeps no copy on a server.
Read answer - PartlyCan I share my mood data with a therapist or doctor?
Partly. Pixy has no clinician portal or PDF report, but you can show your calendar and statistics on your phone, share statistics cards as images, or send a CSV export.

Open Settings > Data, tap Delete all my data, and confirm. Pixy erases every entry, tag, and setting on the phone. This cannot be undone.

Read answer - NoCan several people use Pixy on one phone?
No. Pixy has one journal per app, without profiles or separate journals. Each person should use Pixy on their own phone, which also keeps entries private.
Read answer - PartlyIs my Pixy data encrypted?

Support
Report a bug, request a feature, and find help when you need more than an app.
- Pixy crashes or won't open. What can I do?
Update Pixy to the latest version, restart your phone, and make sure the phone has free storage. If Pixy shows "Your entries could not be loaded", your data is still on the device: export it from that screen and contact support.
Read answer - How do I report a bug or contact support?
Open Settings > Feedback > Report Bug. Describe what happened, add your email if you want a reply, and tap Send. Feedback needs an internet connection.
